Hey, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager and a parent, currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Several years ago I moved here with my family, and what began as a short-term assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many international relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The first months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Bay Field Quartz
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What this site does (and does not)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from residing in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated only when there is a genuine change
This site is not:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Netherlands continues, and the learning journey goes on. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Cheers,
Sophie
